Many people wonder if there are bodybuilding exercises that can be done from home. Weight training of course is most commonly associated with the gym setting. Dozens of different machines, stacks upon stacks of free weights and rows of dumbbells are all very conducive to high quality workouts. However, whether for time, money or inconvenience, the gym does not work out for everybody. The good news is that there are definitely alternatives that can be performed from the comfort of your home.
To begin with, you can perform some great bodybuilding exercises from your own home without needing any equipment at all. For example, one of the classic muscle builders of all-time is the pull-up. These can be performed commonly from a door frame, or from a tree in your yard. If that’s not possible, a very inexpensive, portable pull-up bar can be used anywhere in your home. There is great variety of usesfrom this one small piece of equipment, or this one basic move.
For example, once you have a pull-up bar you can perform many great core exercises. Many weight training moves for the core are designed all wrong, and sit-ups and crunches are not the smartest route either. But with a move such as hanging leg raises, you can target every inch of your core to the maximum, providing a stellar strength building workout.
To perform this move, simply hang with your arms straight from a pull-up bar, using a standard shoulder width pull-up grip. Raise your knees towards your chest and bring your hips backward, so that your shins end up parallel to the ground. Slowly lower yourself and build up your strength until you can repeat sets of 10.
Without any equipment there are still other bodybuilding exercises that you can perform from home. The best example is the push-up. Push-ups are commonly overlooked once people get beyond gym class in elementary school. However these are phenomenal strength builders that can be performed anywhere, at any time. For twists on the classic, try variations with your hands on a raised surface like a table or counter top, or your feet on a raised surface like a chair or a bed.
While all of these bodybuilding exercises can be performed at home with no equipment, with just a few small additions you can open up the doors to a huge array of weight training techniques. For example, just one pair of dumbbells or one pair of kettlebells will enable you to perform almost any exercise. Or you can buy a medicine ball that will help you complete many weight training and plyometric moves.
As you can see, yes, there are plenty of bodybuilding exercises that you can perform from the comfort of your own home. Many of these moves do not require any equipment, while many other weight training exercises can be completed at home with only the smallest investments in equipment. Armed with this knowledge, there’s no excuse not to get in the best shape of your life.
